Our Founder's Journey - Back to the Bedroom
My Struggle with Snoring and the Search for a Real Solution
Four years ago, I was dealing with something many people never talk about: snoring so loud it regularly pushed me out of the bedroom. It affected my sleep, my confidence, and my relationship. I tried everything I could think of, but nothing truly worked.
The Book That Changed Everything: Discovering Breath
Sleeping on my side helped for a while, but as I got older, the snoring returned no matter what I tried. During a summer holiday, my sister brought along Breath by James Nestor. One chapter caught my attention immediately - the idea of taping your mouth shut at night to encourage nasal breathing. It sounded strange, but the logic made sense.
Experimenting with Tape: The Early Days
Armed with only sellotape, I tried taping my mouth the first night. I lasted an hour, but during that hour my partner noticed I was not snoring. That small win was enough to push me forward.
I tested everything I could find: duct tape, 3M Nexcare, medical tapes - you name it. None of them stretched, none were breathable, and all of them were painful to remove. Some mornings felt like ripping off a plaster from the most sensitive part of my face.
Mouth taping insight: Most people do not last through the full first night. Ten minutes, an hour, or maybe the whole night - it all counts. Stick with it.
Why I Created Betta Sleep Mouth Tape
It became clear that mouth taping needed a product designed specifically for sleep - something comfortable, breathable, and safe on skin. I began developing my own solution, testing fabrics and adhesives for nearly 12 months.
That work eventually became Betta Sleep Mouth Tape, designed for people who want the benefits of nasal breathing without the discomfort of regular tapes.
What to Expect When You Start Mouth Taping
Your first night might feel unusual. You might keep the tape on for only a few minutes, or you might make it through the whole night. Betta Sleep was designed to make the process easier from day one. It stretches naturally with the movement of your lips and stays gentle on your skin.
How to Remove the Tape Comfortably
As the adhesive warms on your skin overnight, it feels stickier in the morning. The easiest way to remove it is to poke your tongue into the tape from the inside. Saliva breaks down the adhesive, allowing the tape to peel off gently - even if you have facial hair.
If you wake up needing water, peel off one side or the whole strip. You can reapply it afterward, and it will regain its stickiness within minutes.
The Benefits I Experienced
Since switching to Betta Sleep, my sleep has changed completely. No more waking up with a dry mouth. No more drooling. No more reaching for water in the middle of the night. I wake up clear-headed, rested, and ready to go.
Why Betta Sleep Is Different
Most tapes are not designed for sleep. They are stiff, non-breathable, and painful to remove. Betta Sleep is different. The stretch, the breathability, and the softness of the fabric create a comfortable seal that supports nasal breathing without feeling restrictive. You can even breathe lightly through the tape if you need to.

A Better Way to Sleep
Creating Betta Sleep has been one of the most rewarding projects of my life. Every day I hear from people whose sleep, partners, and wellbeing have improved simply by closing their mouth at night. If my story helps even one person sleep better, it is worth it.
Best Practice Tips for Using Mouth Tape
Difficulty removing the tape in the morning
Solution: Push your tongue into the tape from inside your mouth. Saliva neutralises the adhesive so it lifts off easily.
Needing a drink during the night
Solution: Peel off one side, take a drink, and reapply. The adhesive will reset after a few minutes.
Feeling panicked or uncomfortable
Solution: Push your tongue downward against the tape to create a breathing gap. Once you feel settled, reapply or remove completely.
